Fort Verde Days October 12 & 13, 2013

 

Fort Verde State Historic Park celebrates Fort Verde Days with a flag-raising and lowering ceremony, living history presentations with HOME_596the Buffalo Soldiers and Indian Wars period re-enactors, special presentations, a fashion show, cavalry drills and a vintage baseball game. Catch a glimpse of the past, while celebrating Fort Verde Days.Schedule subject to change.

Saturday, October 12

  • 9:00 am – Flag raising ceremony (Parade Grounds)
  • 9:15 am – Official welcome/opening remarks (COQ)
    * Cannon demonstration – 1St Texas Artillery / 3rd US Artillery Battery A (Parade Grounds)
    * Drill – All available military/service units (Parade Grounds)
  • 10:00 am – Fort Verde Days Parade (Downtown – Main Street)
  • 11:30 – Noon – Equestrian Presentation of Colonel’s Daughter
    * Camp Verde Cavalry (COQ – Parade Grounds)
  • 12:40 pm. – Cannon demonstration: 1St Texas Artillery / 3rd US Artillery Battery A (Parade Grounds)
  • 1:00 pm – Dr. Sam Palmer: “The Battle of Big Dry Wash” (Admin/Museum Building)
  • 1:00 pm – Vintage Baseball Game: Fort Verde Excesliors vs. AZ Stars and Stripes (Parade Grounds)
  • 2:00 pm – Fashion show (COQ)
  • 3:00 pm – John Yazzie: The Navajo attack on Fort Defiance (COQ)
  • 4:00 pm – Vintage wedding/renewal of vows (COQ)
  • 5:00 pm – Flag retreat ceremony (Parade Grounds)
    * All available military/service units
  • Dutch Oven Cooking demonstrations all day (lunch is open to public for suggested donation)
  • Living history presentations and camp displays
  • Infantry and Artillery drills

Sunday, Oct. 13

  • 9:00 am – Flag raising ceremony (Parade Grounds)
    * Available military/service units
  • 9:30 am – Infantry drill (Parade Grounds)
  • 10:00 am – Church services (COQ)
  • 11:00 am – Robert Gibney – “John Townsend-Farmer, Indian Fighter, and Scout” (COQ)
  • 12:30 pm – Drill, as available
  • 12:00 pm – The Victorian Lady and the contents of her Travelling Carpet Bag (Admin/Museum Building)
  • 1:00 pm – Dr. Sam Palmer: “The Battle of Big Dry Wash” (Admin/Museum Building)
  • 2:00 pm – Flag Retreat (Parade Grounds)
    * Dutch Oven Cooking demonstrations in the morning and afternoon
    * Living history presentations and camp displays
