Bill Taylor, an Aiken resident who earned overwhelming Aiken County Tea Party endorsement, is to be “the strong voice the people need in the Statehouse,” in South Carolina’s District 86.
Taylor beat incumbent Jim Stewart, who won the seat in 2003, with 57 percent of the vote.
Statewide, voter turnout was extremely low, at 21.9%.
At the time of the Tea Party endorsement, Taylor said, “I am honored to receive the endorsement from the Aiken County Tea Party that underscores my conservative values. These are patriots who know now is the time to win back our government. I’m proud to be among the grassroots conservatives standing shoulder-to-shoulder who will bring back our founding principles of limited government.”
Locals said they were fed up with government interfering in their lives and it seems the majority of republicans who bothered to vote, agree with that sentiment.
